Using retail environment design to create a cozy coffee shop
When we designed the retail space, menu, and branding for Lit Espresso bar in Toronto’s hip Roncesvalles neighbourhood, the space needed to embody everything the brand stood for: fantastic coffee, comfortable spaces, and coffee shop cool. But, as an experienced environmental design firm, we knew we were up for the challenge!
Rustic-meets-modern store layout and design
Lit Espresso Bar wanted to create a unique experience that blended classic brews with the care and intricacy of third-wave coffee culture. So, we created an interior retail environment that was equal parts modern, with custom matte black industrial lighting fixtures, and rustic, with a counter made of stacked, 100-year-old barn boards from an old barn in nearby St. Catharines.
Using exterior and interior graphic design to finish the space
We also built a brand for Lit, creating logos, coffee cups, menus, and a website. The graphic design worked in tandem with the environmental graphic design, building on the sleek and modern look with cozy accents like hand-drawn illustrations and hand-stamped coffee bags.
